Contacting the Task Teams

C3 is composed of five Task Teams: Employment, Youth, Child Development and Education, Housing, Health and Well-being.

Task team membership includes: residents, students, organizations, agencies, BU faculty and all others who are interested in addressing community needs and priorities.

EMPLOYMENT TASK TEAM
This Task Team usually meets monthly at Workforce New York.
Mission Statement
To develop and enhance initiatives designed to improve skills and increase employment opportunities of the local workforce in Broome County by responding directly to both employers' and residents' needs through collaboration and cooperation between various community partners.

- Surveys on current employment programs, needs assessments regarding employment, skills and training
- Initiatives to increase awareness of workforce needs and demand occupations in local high schools

YOUTH TASK TEAM
The entire Task Team meets bi-monthly. However, some members chose to meet more frequently as needed. Meetings are held at Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Mission Statement
Working collaboratively on issues pertaining to youth in the Greater Binghamton Community. Improving our community by developing youth/adult partnerships and addressing important community issues.
Current Initiatives

Working to bring youth and law enforcement together through a youth/adult sponsored first ever summit
- Working to promote training for youth workers and strengthening youth serving organizations
- Researching youth entrepreneurship curriculum and opportunities

EDUCATION/CHILDHOOD TASK TEAM
The Task Team usually meets on the first Monday of every month. Meetings are held in BU's Downtown Community Center.
Mission Statement
Identify, advocate and respond to the basic health and wellness needs of children and their families in an effort to promote academic success of school aged children.
Current Initiatives
-
Nutrition Workshops - educating families on proper nutrition, and showing families quick and easy recipes
- Hair Fairies - addressing the issue of head lice in a non-humiliating way
- Enhancing information and accessibility for families to obtain basic needs i.e. food, housing, health and hygiene, and transportation.

HOUSING TASK TEAM
Mission Statement
The Task Team is focused on moving community members to more permanent, affordable, and safe housing options. The Task Team has renamed itself as the Coalition for Community Reinvestment and looks to expand its focus. They will seek to advise banks with how they can reinvest money into the community for its optimal development. The team is also looking to identify other community organizations and sources for rejuvinating initiatives.

- Organizing housing fairs/informational workshops
- Provide information on the City of Binghamton's First Time Homebuyer Program and other information on tenant rights
- Created the "Greater Binghamton Affordable Homes and Heating Guide"

HEALTH AND WELLBEING TASK TEAM

This Task Team is in a temporary hiatus. They are looking for a new Task Team leader. To learn more, contact Allison Alden at aalden@binghamton.edu.
Purpose
The overall purpose of the Task Team is to help community residents access appropriate services to improve and maintain their physical and mental health.
Past Activities
- Provided residents with free health assessments
- Used resident health assessments to identify community needs
- Coordinated mental and physical health programs
- Participated in community health fairs
- Submitted grant proposal to fund a free health clinic in downtown Binghamton
