ABOUT
US
Our department
has a proud history and tradition of offering physics education through its
excellent faculty and staff. Students will find small classes and a caring
faculty and staff that provide a nurturing and challenging environment for
tomorrow’s thinkers and problem solvers. Some of our alumni, who have
gone on to pursue careers in physics and related fields, credit their success
to the education they received in this department.
Our department
offers Baccalaureate
degree programs
in Science
and Arts as
well as the
Master of Science,
Master of Arts,
Master of Teaching
(in association
with the School
of Education)
and Ph.D. (in
association
with Material
Science and
Engineering)
degrees. Detailed
information
on these degree
programs can
be found in
our web pages
under Programs.
Efforts are
underway to
reestablish
the Ph.D. program
in pure and
applied physics.
Our faculty
members conduct
research in
theoretical
as well as
experimental
fields. The
broad categories
are Condensed
matter research
(experiment
and theory),
optoelectronics
materials and
devices, and
high-energy
physics (theoretical).
We have strong
collaborative
relationships
with our colleagues
in both the
academic as
well as corporate
world. Our
department
and our research
groups are
partnering
to build a
microfabrication
clean room
facility for
research and
undergraduate
education in
nanoscale science
and technology.
We also heavily
utilize the
state of the
art analytical
equipment and
research facilities
at the Binghamton
University
Innovative
Technology
Complex.
Prospective
students and
parents should
feel free to
browse our
website and
arrange a visit
with us. All
the contact
information
is provided
in the People-Physics
Directory page
of our website. Faculty
research can
be found in
the respective
web pages of
each member
of the faculty.
Thank You for
your interest
in our department!
Happy Visiting!
