Schedule of Assignments

Current as of 27 March, 2026

Assignments due by beginning of class on indicated days. Subject to change at instructor's discretion.

21-Jan Introduction to Course. No assignment.
26-Jan The past is ever new: Longus' Daphnis and Chloe (D&C), day 1.

Here's what you're being asked to do — note that all assignments are, unless otherwise noted, to be done in the following way:

  1. Read carefully the Study Guide, all of it.
    • Study Guides are always required reading. They provide access to
      • The readings themselves
      • Prompts for Short Writing Assignments (SWAs)
      • Introductions to subject matter, texts, issues, etc.
    • Think of class meetings as supplemental to Study Guides, not the other way around
  2. Read assigned reading, accessed via the Study Guide. Take good notes on it.
  3. Go back to the Study Guide; review the Short Writing Assignment prompt. Enter your response to that prompt in the text box provided on the BrightSpace course site > Assignments > Short Writing Assignments (SWAs) > SWA 1. Longus Daphnis and Chloe, day 1.
  • Reliance on third-party or AI summaries is no substitute for doing assignments as directed. It will inevitably compromise the quality of student work.
